PILOT RESCUED BY LIFESAVERS. A 8H59 plane, which was carrying newspapers, left Brisbane for the north, hut when, over the end of Britie Island it ran into blinding rain and the engine sopped. The pilot headed for the mainland, but the plane did not have sufficient altitude, and it fell into the sea some distance from the beach at Caloundra. The pilot climbed out on to the wing of the floating aeroplane and Waited the arrival of members of the Metropolitan-Calotundra Surf Club, who reached him quickly and towed the machine ashore. The plane received a severe buffeting in the surf and -wings were torn away, hut were recovered by a boatman. This is the first time in Australia that such a rescue has been effected.
