WELLINGTON, Jan. 5
The New Zealand, A championships concluded this afternoon in brilliant sunshine with a cool southerly' breeze. There was a large-attendance.
In the final of the men’s singles McGrath heat Andrews, with a more varied game and steadier if; lass’ forcing, and very much .better.- physical fitness. Even if Andrews had won the second set in which he held set points, he would not have won. His forehand driving to McGrath’s backhand corner was at times unreturnablc, but as bo tired he made numerous errors. McGrath, who was long in 'finding liL game, improved as the match progressed, and in the fourth set ran Andrews off his legs. Miss N. Beverley -came near to boating Miss Dulcie Nicholls, who was del ending her title, bv a - concentrated attack on backhand play with deep fast drives, and an attack from the net in. which -she', volleyed and-' smashed splendidly. Alisa Beverley won the first set, and led 4—l in the second set. Then she commenced to play steadily from the backline, at which game she was no match for Miss Nicholls who, with corner to corner drives, asserted an ascendancy which was never afterwards really seriously challenged. Aliss Beverley fainter!at the end. The men’s doubles final saw D. G. France and Seay in brilliant form, volleying, lobbing and driving unfaltering. Concentrating bis attack on Seay, AfcGrath, too, was very uncertain, making easy mistakes.
Tn the mixed doubles semi-finals, after winning the first set with a brill; ant net attack against Aloon and Miss Nicholls, Roussel 1 and Aliss I. Poole 101 l away, nnrl made numerous errors, particularly on the part of Aliss Poole. The final between Afoon and Aliss Nicholls and Coomho and Aliss Beverley was one-sided, Aliss Bolveiiev obviously not having fully recovered: Moon and Afiss Nicholls had scarcely any opposition and won ns they liked,
