TO CONDUCT OLD INN

Mr Ramsay MacDonald’s daughter, Ishbel, is going to keep an inn—Yo Old Plow —in the valley below Speen, Buckinghamshire. called • Flower’s Bottom.
Negotiations for purchase are in progress, and Miss MacDonald! will take possession after Christmas.
She will live there herself and will conduct the inn with the help of the cook and parlourmaid from her former staff at Chequers and: No. 10 Downing; Street. “Her ideal is social service,” said Mrs. Child, mother of the present landlord. “In her travels she has sometimes stayed l in places that were badly run. She intends to run this place so that people will he comfortable and happy. She will continue her political work, of course.’’ The inn was built in 1621, and is mentioned by Pepys in his diary as the place whore King Charles “was wont to carouse” when he stayed at a cottage opposite. The cottage is now untenantod, falling into disrepair.
