CHURCH SERVICE FOR LOVERS

ENGLISH VTOAR’fff INNOVATION

LONDON, Nov. 23

A service fo which he had especially invited young couples in love was addressed by the Rev. J. T. Hodgson, at the Oxford Place Chapel, Leeds, this week. Almost every seat in the church was filled, and later the minister invited the younger people, whom ho described ns “courting couples” fo a “musical hour” in one of the church roomsHe said afterwards that, his aim had been to give friendly advice to the young lovers. “The ideal age for marriage is between 23 and 2B for ia. woman and 28 and 30 for a man,’’ Air. Hodgson said.

“In marriage you have the possibility of glory or tragedy—heaven or hell. The causes of unhappy marriages are concerned with trifles. “A quiet tongue and a. sense .of humour would save a thousand homes. If your husband behaves like a bear with a sore head —hand him a. mirror. Too many troubles start by a man thinking lie is slighted or a woman thinking she is belittled.’-’ In his sermon Air. Hodgson said: “Let your love he real. You are in the presence of the sweetest mystery of life.” Love, he said, was the strongest clement in. human life—stronger than politics. It was only a fool who sneered at it. “Promiscuous flirtations are full- of subtle peril,” he added- “The man who described himself as a. ladykiller is a pest—a plague spot in society.”
