The Marquess of Duffer in and Ava was a passenger in an aeroplane which, when taking off at Le Touquet for London, crashed and suffered damage. Many high tributes to tlie work of Mr W. Oak-den as .secretary were paid ait the annual meeting of the Gisborne R.S.A. yesterday. The president, Lt.-Colonel R- F. Gambrill, pointed out that Mr Oakden was untiring in his work and did far more than should be expected of any one man. Some members imposed on him but be took it all in gcod part and gave an much assistance to those who imposed on him as to deserving cares. He was paid a salary which actually was a very long way below liis worth. It was Ids good fellowship that made all ilie difference. He was a wonderful secretary, with the interests of the association truly at heart, and he was doing far mere than any digger had the right to expect from any man. On the speaker’s motion a vote of thanks, with thunderous acclamation, was passed to Mr Oakden and lie wad also congratulated on a recent addition to liis family.
