For the first time in th 0 political history of Australia., comments Mr. A. gchire , of Gisborne who lias just returned from a visit across the Tasman, the Country Party is in power in Victoria, as, aided by the Labor Party they succeeded in ousting the Argyll} Ministry on a vote of no confidence. The late Government'came in for a good deal of vituperative remarks . from the unemployed during tse progress of the Eight Hours’ procession, but. the general opinion in Melbourne is that xne new Government will not, be a great success, and .will have to ‘toe the mark! or else go to the country for a test of the strength of the Voters. It is st. common sight on. the railway stations of Sydney and Melbourne to see young ladies pa.inting tlfbir lips! and' generally malcing-up their faces in full view of hundreds of onlookers; so says a Gisborne resident who has just returned from a holiday visit to Australia.
