UNITED STATES MONEY -VXD FOOD FOR THOUGHT. (To the Editor.) Sir.—Senator Borah, when introducing a. Bill prohibiting any new public or private United States loau to foreign governments outside of the American Continent, asserted that any money loaned to Europe was in “aid of war” and his Bill provides for a maximum penalty of 0.000,000 dot. and. .1.0 years’ imprisonment for any person or firm making a new loan. This reminds me that in the days of my youth—in England—a very blue-blooded old Conservative had one very Radical idea which closely resembled Mr Borah’s idea, only lie would have gone further and confiscated the whole of the estate of lenders to foreign countries because capital so invested would, he contended, sooner or later be used in war or business against Britain. This makes one realise that, in our present economic war, New Zealand and Australia are hard hit by the amount of British capital sunk in those foreign countries—the Argentine and Denmark also Russia.—l am, yours, etc., C. TILLEARD NATUSCH.
