Mrs. Pitt presided oveT a fair attendance of members. Roll-call for the day w r as the yearly subscriptions, members present responding readily. The competition, an apron made from a sugar bag, was won by—A section : Mrs Glanville 1, Mrs Kerb a. 2, Mrs C. Pitt 3; B section: Mrs Piki Smith I,' Mrs Carrington 2, Mrs R. Jones 3. Mr Franklin of the A.A. patrol service, gave a very interesting talk on the Rales of the Road and the aims and objects of the A.A. Before concluding Mr Franklin. presented each member with a booklet of rules Airs Ryan, of the Wainui-o-Mata W. 1., Wellington, gave a novel and interesting demonstration of a footstool made from discarded honey tins.—Thanks were accorded to the lecturer and demonstrator. Miss E'lorrie Menzies presented the Institute with a beautiful wicker piano stool which wa,s gratefully received. Morning tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames. Havers and Hill and Miss Havers. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem. WEDDING. deLAUTOUR—PACKEA wedding of interest was solemnised at Holy Trinity Church on Easter Monday morning when Florence Emilye, youngest daughter of Mrs Packe and the late Canon H. Packe, of Gisborne, was married to Ralph Bertrand, eldest son of Air and Airs R, deLautour, of Wairoa. • The very beautiful E : aster decorations in the church formed a picturesque setting for the bridal group. The ceremony was performed by Canon A. F. Hall and the Rev. Mr Aloresby presided at the organ. The bride, who was escorted by her brother-in-law, Mr. R. Fitzgerald (Hangaroa), wore an exquisite modified princess frock of parchment angelskin lace, flaring gracefully below the knees. The cowl neckline was bound with matching georgette, and the long closely moulded sleeves were finished %vith tiny capelets. A stitched belt of georgette fastened jyith a silver clasp defined the natural sygj#tline. The bridal Fell of filmy embroidered tulle was arranged in cap fashion with a spray of orange blossom at the nape of the neck and fell in soft fpyiping a long train.

Parchment shaded velvet court shoes, with stockings to tone, were worn, and a lovely sheaf of cream roses was carried. The bridesmaid, Alias Molly Foster, wore a frock of dusky rose pink ripple crepe sashed with wine colored velvet. The bodice had a round neck outlined with velvet flowers and flared elbow length sleeves, a short basque adding a becoming finish. Inlet godets : gave .graceful fullness to the skirt, which just revealed wineshaded velvet clippings. Her hat of wine velvet was caught at the hack with gold and matching flowers and she carried a sheaf of chrysanthemums in rose and wine tunings. The tiny flower girl, Diane Fitzgerald, niece of the bride, looked very dainty in a smock of dusky rose pink crepe. A matching ribbon bandeau encircled her head and. she carried an Early Victorian posy in soft shades of pink. The small page, Gerald Fitzgerald, nephew of the bride, was an attractive figure in wine colored corduroy velvet breeches and a frilled shirt of cream silk. The duties of best man were cajuried out by Mr Malcolm Scott, of Paeroa. A Tecepri.n was afterwards held at the Freesia Lounge, wh - v a numl-or of relatives and friends were entertained by the bride’s mother, who wore an elegant frock of navy blue and white printed marocain and a navy threequartor-length coat trimmed with narrow accordion-pleated frills. Her hat of navy blue felt was relieved with touches of white and a bouquet of zinnias in rich autumn tints was carried. The wedding breakfast was served at tables artistically decorated with autumn blooms in delicate shades of pink. The customary toasts were honored and the handsome pink wedding cake was cut and dispensed by the bride. Tho bride travelled in a smart frock of loaf brown marocain patterned in beige and green, a swagger coat of brown crepe de chine and a fawn felt hat. Airs. A. Pitt-ar, sister of the bride, was wearing a frock of geranium red and white pin spotted foulard with a thrqequarter-length brown crepe coat and hat of matching felt. Airs R. Fitzgerald, sister of the bride, chose a frock of black and white figured marocain with scarlet and white trimmings and a scarlet felt. hat. Afiss J. Packe, sister of the bride, wore a frock of Marina blue crepe with a cowl collar of silver grey and a small grey silk bat. ornamented with stitching. Mrs M. Hughes, aunt of the bridegroom, was wearing a loaf brown tailormade, a velour hat to match, and furs. Airs. G. W. Willock, aunt of the bridegroom, wore a fur coat with a. frock of navy blue ribbed wool crepe and a small red felt hat. Aliss C. deLautour, aunt of the bridegroom, chocolate brown tailored suit and hat of fawn felt. ST. PATRICK’S BALL. A BRILLIANT SUCCESS. The City Hall was en fete on Monday night when the annual St. Patrick’s ball was held under the happiest of auspices, and, like its predecessors, proved an immense success. Gaily decorated and filled with a merry throng of dancers, the ballroom offered a striking contrast to the unpleasant weather conditions prevailing outofdoors. Adequate preparations bad been made for the occasion and the brilliant success of the function .musthave amply repaid the promoters. Sparkling and up-to-date music was supplied by Airs Alenzies’ orchestra and delightful extras were played by Miss Gooch and Air D’A. Heeney during the supper interlude. The floor was. most efficiently supervised by Alessrs. B. : Parker and R. Hughes, whose efforts contributed largely to the pleasure of the dancers. The artistic spotlight effects we-c in the capable bauds- of Air P'-“ 'ey Vosper. The hospitality of the committee was enjoyed by Rev. Fathers McAfahon and Kearns. A delectable supper, which lacked nothing either in organisation or menu, was served under the direction of Mrs J. AlcLeod assisted by an energetic committee. The supperroom was canopied with multi-colored streamers, and the tables were adorned with crystal vases of nerines intermingled with delicate trails of asparagus, richly-tint-ed autumn foliage strewn on the white cloths adding to tho charming effect.
