FILL THE PEWS!
CHURCHES ADVISED TO ADVERTISE. LONDON, March 10. Canon Hannay (George A. Birmingham, the novelist) framed some advertisements for the Church when he spoke at the United Sorvices Institute, Whitehall. They were: "Wlmt has happened to your Sunday smile since Dean Inge left St. Paul’s ?” "Why not try the Rev. Henry Marriman at St. Hilarious, generally known as ‘the P. G. Wodehouso of the Pulpit.* ’’ He was supporting a suggestion made hy Mr Shaun Patrick O’Connor that the Church should run an advertising campaign through the Press, cinema, hoardings, and the post. Mr O’Connor’s idea of a suitable advertisement was this: "What are you doing to-morrow P Are you going to spend every minute in pursuit of selfish pleasures? Go to church once at least to-morrow wherever you may be. On Monday you will be a better, brighter hap. pier man or woman.”
