_ 1 ' — 1 ' " "**'' EXECUTIVE’S APPEAL FOR TO-DAY' COUNTER WJBT - WEATHER BY SPECIAL EFFORT HELP THE DISTRESSED DIGGER The, following general appeal is issued to the public by the district executive of the Returned Soldiers’ A-sociation • l “Adverse weather threaten to make this Poppy Day the least productive since the association assumed the duty of organising annual appeals. Experience has shown us that a cold day keeps people indoors, and that in consequence the sales of poppy blooms are lower than on sunny days. We have yet to experience the full effect of a really La-J day I—out 1 —out it seems likely that to-day will bring us that experience. “Keeping in mind all that a'successful issue -of this appeal may mean to distressed Diggers in the continuance of the relief which in the past has been afforded mainly from the proceeds of Poppy Day .sales, we ask the public to make a special effort to-day to temper the effect of adverse" weather on Poppy Day returns. “The Diggers make only one annual request for general assistance. It is not too much to hop, that the signal generosity of t'3» Gisborne public will withstand the dampening effect of rain and wind.
