TRUNK AIRWAYS

TWO APPLICATIONS GRANTED TRIED REFUSED, BUT MAY seek other, routes (Press Association). WELLINGTON, April 11. The Transport Co-ordination Board’s decision regarding trunk airways was given to-day. The applications on behalf of Union Airways of New Zealand and Great Pacific Airways (New Zealand) Ltd., were granted. That of New Zealand Airways Ltd., was refused. In connection with New Zealand Airways, Ltd., which company has already done i'~ome flying in the south the hoard said.it was entitled to consideration in other directions. It had applied for a license .to cover certain auxiliary routes as well as for the main service and for a license for si. taxi cserviee also. Tho application for the other routes and the taxi service was a'ljouriicd to enable the company to lodge an amended application for any service that might now he open for it. The Union Company's application was for a daily service between Palmerston North and Dunedin, via Christchurch, which it was .-stated, could be brought into service by the end of September and, if required by the hoard, could he extended to Auckland, via New Plymouth. The application on behalf of Pacific Airways was made by Mr T. S. Withers, proposing a daily service ho tween Auckland and Dunedin, via •Nlew Plymouth, Wanganui, Blenheim, Christchurch and Timaru. Mr Withers will have to satisfy the board that the control of the company will ho in New Zealand.
