HISTORIC PHOTOGRAPHS IN GISBORNE MESSINES JUST PRIOR TO .BATTLE’ Regarding the proposal to exhibit an interesting collection of war mementoes, as a reminder to the public of the imminence of the annual Poppy Day appeal on behalf o£ soldiers whose present distress is largely attributable to war service, it was. reported to a meeting -of the G.R.A. executive members last evening that a number of- relicts, had come to hand and that the preparation of a series of photographs, taken ,rrom. the air in the locality' of Messines just prior to the famous battle which hinged upon that village, had been completed.

These photographs have been taken from a collection brought back to New Zealand by a Gisborne officer, and have never previously boon exhibited; and tlroir display this week will he made in conjunction with that, of the barrage plan for the Alesrines Battle, a -strikingly interesting and valuable memento to an engagement in which the New,Zealand Division took a leading part.
