PLANTS. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, Oct. 16, The protection of African fauna and flora by means of a verified international convention will be the chief purpose of a conference which will meet in London ou October 41, and at which the Governments of Great Britain, Abyssinia, Belgium, Egypt. France. Italy, Portugal. Spain, and Anglo-Egyptian Sudan wi 1 be represented. The Governments of India, the United States, and the Netherlands have nominated observers. The chief British delegate, Lord Onslow, will preside. Other -British delegates, will be Sir William.Gowers, senior Crown agent for the Colonies; Sir Arnold Hudson- Governor of Sierra Leone; and Mr. A. B. Aoheson, °f the Coloniaj Office. A draft convention for use as a basis of discussion has been circulated to the other Governments by the United Kingdom Government. It- contains suggestions for an agreed declaration of the prinicple of. establishment of national sanctuaries in which wild animals and Plants may bo preserved, with due regard to the interests of the native inhabitants of Die various territories concerned, and also proposes measures to - restrict toe. killing of some of the more rare species of African animals. It also deals with various objectionable methods of hunting and other practices which have a destructive effect upon wild life, and is designed to secure co-operation between the various administrations.
