MAJESTIC
"DON'T BET ON LOVE” An exceptionally colorful background, an appealing Jove theme, and an excellent cast headed .by Lew Ayres and Ginger Rogers make Universal’s ‘‘Don't- Bet- on Love’’ which opens to-day at the Majestic, one of the most .stimulating screen plays to come to Gisborne in many months. Laid largely in the exciting atmosphere of the horse racing centres, “Don’t Bet on Love’’ tells the human story of a young gambler who knows more about horses than he does about women. Ayres, starred in the role, skyrockets to the ton as a betting sensation, but loses in his romance with the more serious-minded Ginger. After a hectio career in which he determines to oppose, with crooked methods, the biggest gambler at the tracks, Ayres stakes his entire fortune on the “big race’’ and the l-suspense built up for, this thrilling sequence is admirable. Ayres, more romantic and sympathetic than ever has a role ideally suited to him. His performance has ah appeal that orders om genuine dramatic geinus. Ginger Rogers twins hearts right and left as the little manicurist. Preparations are now well in hand for Mickey Mouse's big birthday party, which takes place next Saturday afternoon. The huge birthday cake is now on view in Findlay’s window.
