WELLINGTON, Oct. 16. The death is reported of Mr J. A. iShand, a war correspondent in the [South African War, and for many iy e ars editor of. the Tname.s Star and Sub-editor of . the New Zealand Times. MR, W. McILROY, OF WAIPIRO BAY. (Special to the Times.) The death of Mr. W. Mcllroy at Waipiro Bay on Saturday at the age of 81, marked the passing of an early colonist, and one 'of the early settlers of the East Coast. The late Mr, Mcllroy came to New Zealand from England about 60 years ago with Mr. (later Sir E.) Mitchelson. He worked in the Auckland district for some years, but for the last 4.5 years, he had lived in the Waipiro Bay district. He was mainly employed in the farming industry and assisted in the early efforts in clearing the hush for settlement. Deceased had a wonderful constitution and, until a week or two before his death, was to be seen daily on horseback and the well-known figure, familiarly known as “Old Bill” will be much missed from the community. The funeral was held at Kie Kie on Sunday and was conducted by Rev. Haigh. Deceased is survived by six sons and three daughters, Mrs. Hoki Pox, Mrs. Tipi Babbington, Mrs Geo. Ferris; Messrs Tu, William, James, Sidney, Pat and John Mcllroy, and to them the sympathy of a large circle of friends will he extended. WELL-KNOWN JAPANESE LEADER.
