At the annual convocation ceremonies of the C-ollege of Surgeons to-night-, Dr. Allan (N.Z.) was -among four receiving honorary fellowships Six hundred and twenty-two fellowships were conferred, including Dr. Thomas D. Stout, of Wellington. Other honorary fellowships were conferred on surgeon-generals in the American army and navy. Professor Beckwith. ot White House and the University of Birmingham. in a 'survey presented io the college, showed annual losses of industry through accidents and disease, and outlined .a “medical code’’ presented’ to the N.Li.A. for the consideration of such conditions, estimated at five billion dollars. The annual cost" of death injuries in the nation’s industries was estimated at at least, olio billion dollars,,, a'nd this sum could he saved aumiallji- through an effective health and safety programme.
