A large meeting of Taranaki < ! fury farmers unanimously expressed opposition to quotas and restrictions on dairy exports, and supported the free markets policy. Mr. W. 3. P-olson, M.P., -aid quotas were a- colossal - blunder and contended , that the Ottawa- agree-, ment made no mention of quotas, and despite the Rt. Ron. J. G. Coates’ statement that the British Government imposed froasn u.i.-ai. quotas to assist Australia and South Africa, the restriction of butter supplies; would increase the tendency to create substitutes, films decreasing tho demand for New Zealand pi'°duce. Resolutions were carried n s i'o!ioiws:—“(a) That this meeting cupports the policy of, free markets and urges Now Zealand to offer Britain definite opportunities of reciprocal advantage- on New. Zealand markets in exchange few the advantages or free markets in Britain. ’ ‘‘(b) That the opinion of this meeting of Taranaki dairy farmers should be conveyed to the Government, with a request that nothing should he done by our representatives attending tho London Conference to prejudice the position regarding free; markets.”
