CONFERENCE OF A. AND T -.ASSOCIATIONS.'

The Bay of Plenty Conference of. Agricultural and Tastoral Associations was held at AVhakaiane on May 19. Present: Messrs. C. h. S Ross, Jf. Cuff (To Puke;, • • Ward! tuv, G. C. r«Uo* (Whakatane) c. Association,- said that it was pleasing to see such good gathering, every association m the Bay being represented. WOMENS INSTITUTES. WAIOTAHF The May meeting of the Yvaiotahi Institute war- well attended, the nft r el-noon being mostly Scottish, the place of honor «>n the president 1 ? table being given to “Sandy McNair 5 suitably dressed, in kilt' by AJ-rs. David King. Scottish songs were contributed by Miss White and Aims Sampson, both being heartily encored. The competition winners for the afternoon wore: —Girdle scone,-?, Mr?. Ran l : chrysanthemums. Airs. King and Mrs. Ran 1.

The roll call of Scottish joke? brought forth many tributes to the humour of “Bnndv“ Mrs. MacDiarmkFs talk o n “Housekeeping in the Sudan." was thoroughly appreciated by the members present, on whoso behalf Mrs. Jeffery and Airs. Toone briefly spoke. The hostesses wore Airs. ATarx and Alisse? Ran and Blackwell.

OPOTIKI. At the meeting of the Opotiki Women’s Institute, in the absence ot Mrs. Cooper, Mrs. C. J. Fox presided over a good attendance.

Tlie members of the dramatic circle presented a« amusing playette, entitled “Making It Pay.’'’ The various characters were portrayed by Mesdames W. J. Scott, G. Vanstone, T. Morel! and T. Steele, and Alisses Laura Bennett, Emma Bridge and Joy Kelly. Air. T. Alorell gave an interesting and instructive- lecture on I ’Rules °f the RoncT,” w was very much appreciated. The roll call of suggestions for improving the meetings brought forth few, hut quite helpful suggestions. -Supper was provided by the hostesses, Alesdamos T. Al’orcll, A. Vanstone, J. Hughes. S. White. S. AlcAfillan, and IT. Hudson. Airs. Price was announced as the. winner of tile best chrysanthetnum bloom, and Mrs. E. Young the winner of the flowers or shrubs competition. A competition arranged by Aliss N. Xcilson was won by Airs. Forbes. The sales table, in charge of Airs. New Hi, was laden with good things and did brisk business. Another. table was' showered with gifts which each member liTTd brought for their popular president. Airs. Cooper, • who.se house was recently destroyedby fire. The true Institute spirit wa s displayed in the kindly thought of the members who expressed in this, way their feeling -for Airs Cooper, who has done such splendid work for the Institute.

McDonald at the organ. The. president voiced the- Institute’s Sympathy with lately-bereaved members', and then general business was dealt with, two new members being elected. A roll call for (biscuit recipes, was ’"'ell answered, followed by a general exchange of written recipes. Airs. Humbly kindly sang two. songs and then judged .a competition of pikelets. Miss K. 3<owo gained first prize and Airs. A'ausimie second. A dainty afternoon tea was then served by iho hostesses. Mesdames Earp, TTudsou and Wingate. A much appreciated:, demonstration on applepreserving with sulphur was given by Airs Alorice, and Airs. A. Reid’s' competition of Opotiki street names was won try Airs. Rnsoll.
