SWINE FEVER OUTBREAK:

DEATH RATE INCREASES ‘ Press ■ . WELLINGTON, May 17. Relief workers detained to dig trenches to bury diseased pigs instead going to the job this morning sent two deputations containing delegates from ail the relief jobs to the Unemployment Bureau and Agricultural Department demanding <: dirt” money in -addition to the 10s per day being paid. No digging is proceeding. it is reported-that pigs are dying with (increased rapidity to-day, and the position 'is causing the department grave concern. A -suggestion lias been made that the outbreak occurred on farms obtaining garbage from Wellington, and also that it iwas .possible that some of the garbage might have come from intercolonial Or . overseas: vessels. From inquiries made to-day it appears that this is most unlikely, ■ be. cause strict regulations apply regarding ships’ garbage, which is taken to the citv destructor and burnt.'
