NOTES AND NEWS Mr 11. SI. Ritcbio, the president of the Gisborne Chess Club, points out that in the match against Wairoa. lie was recorded with a win against Stichbury, whereas he lost the first game, but won.the second. It was agreed Jthat the match should be decided on the first encounters, so’ the finish was a close ono, 34 games against (24- Gisborne winning by one game instead of three. Although Wairoa have lost, the result is highly encouraging for a first match by a newly formed club. A suggestion has been made that the .six players representing Gisbonw against Wairoa and Nanier should play a sides gaifie on Saturday, the 27th inst.., against the besit six players /available, from the rest of the club. Rotorua Chess Club challenges the Gisborne Club in a telegraphic chess match for possession of tho Blackburn Cup. The match will be played on Saturday, the lOtli and 17th of next imonth, subject jto the datte being suitable for the Rotorua members and tho line being available.
