What probably is the most elaborate example of automatic traffic control in the world was inaugurated in Trafalgar Square, London. Traffic control by light signals is rapidly extending In London, where every, week about 12 new systems are installed, but owing to . the large number- of streets converging on a - falgar Square and the fact that it is traversed by about 6000 vehicles c.ai y, the new system is the most ambitious yet -undertaken. A finiqud. feature of the new system is that the traffic actually controls itself according to its need bymeans of detectors laid in the roadway. The system will replace ,16 point duty police. v r___
