POTATOES FOR, VICTORIA SUGGESTED LIFTING OF N.Z. BAN TASMANIAN TUBERS STILL UNDER, EMBARGO (U.P.A. by Flee. Tel. Copy i tab 1 ') CANBERRA, April 5.
In the (Federal House of Representatives Mr Bell, of Tasmania, asked if it was conceivable that potatoes from New Zealand would be admitted to Victoria while Victoria continued to impose an embargo against Tasmanian potatoes because of the disease, which was prevalent also in New Zealand potatoes.
Mr Latham, acting Prime Minister, said the Government recognised the anomaly, and the matter was under considerationHOBART, April 4. There is ,strong resentment throughout the potato-growing' districts of Tasmania, at the action of the chairman of the Tasmanian Potato Marketing Board in instructing the marketing officer at Sydney'-that ‘the hoard was not opposed to, the lifting of the embargo on New Zealand potatoes. A meeting ias been beld and <V telegram of protest -scut to .the Prime Minister. .
