Captain W. L. Hope, three times winner of the King’s Cup air race, says: “Though beginning to fear the worst, we are organising a search for Squadron-Leader Bert Hinkler, but are afraid it is hopeless. Where can we look? There are three possibilities—that he came down in the Englih Channel, was lost in the Alps, or came down in the Adriatic Sea.”

Captain Hope thinks it likeliest that Hinkler came to grief between Brindisi and Athens.
