FAREWELL TO COMMANDANT

AND AIRS. BALLE

On the eve of their departure on transfer to Carterton, a meeting was held in the Salvation Army barracks on Tuesday evening, to bid farewell to Commandant and Airs. .Balle. Tributes to tbe departing officers, with best wishes in their future sphere were paid by Airs. Dick.-on behalr of the Edward Alnrphy Alemorial Home officers: Airs. Envoy Walker, the "Home League.”. Air. E. Neilson. cadet corps: Air. H. Ratcliffe. young men of the corps, and bandmaster Stein. Airs. Waldoek read the Scriptures. Captaiu Dick said that he felt that he was losing the happy .associations of a brother and sister : he deeply regretted their departure, but he felt that they were going to work in a wider sphere.

Commandant and Airs. Balle. in their parting messages, both referred to the happy years they had spent with the people in Gisborne, and Com mandanl Balle. in his final words, re marked that he could not go away without publicly thanking his many kind and generous friends who resided in the country districts, and who had given him not only an interest in his work, but also homely hospitality.

Tea was served and the numerous friends of Commandant and Airs. Balle were given an opportunity of bidding them farewell before the gathering closed with the singing of “God he with You till Ate meet Again.”
