When “'Smithy” approached the loud speaker, bo was greeted by a roar of applause. JIo expressed graticajifion at the welcome and said that nowhere else in the world—and' bo had been in most parts—had be received such warm welcomes as in Now Zealand. It was especially gratifying to bo received in such a manner on the present occasion, when he wn s appearing in the humble capacity of earning his living. Tho Southern Cross during the trip had run like the good old thoroughbred that she was. He personally had done nothing' clover; ho had done something much more clever recently. Tfo would remind them that ho had a 9lb. son (Cheers). He was glad that he was hack in New Zealand.
“Cheerio, I am going to have n bd of shuteye now’’, he concluded.
