Jan; 1.1 The appointment of members of the Wheat Purchase Board, constituted under the Board of Trade (Wheat) Regulations, 1933, gazetted last week, was made yesterday by the Hon. It. Masters, Minister . of Industries and Commerce. The personnel is:— Air. G. AY. Clinkard, secretary of the Department of Industries and Commerce, Mulholland James Carr, Alan Grant, and Harry Frederick Nicoll, as representatives of the wheat. (growers; Messrs, William Stewart Pratt, Russley v Jackson Lyon, Robert Kay Ireland, and EL win Henry Lough, as representatives of the fiourmillers. FIRST EFFECT OF NEW ORDER!

Since the compulsory wheat pool came int-o operation on Saturday last Wellington merchants have been unable to secure supplies of the new season's crop from .Mari borough. Stocks on hand are now almost pthausted. and the majority of the merchants arc unable to fulfil or-
ders from poultry-keepers and other clients. In a great number of cases the purchases had been arranged before tae issue .of the regulations, which now prevents the completion of-these transactions. This enforced dislocation of the wheat trade is causing serious inconvenience :n Wellington and those parts of the North Island served by the Port of Wellington. The Marlborougn wheat is the first of the now 5 02. so ns cron to *np m<irhot. Tfiis is, now available, and every year many thusand sacks of the new ctop, although of milling quality. is sem to Wellington for distribution ior fowl-feeding ramose-. Pates have already been made to M ellington merchants by Marlborough grain, merchants, hut under the regulations issued by the Government, the latter dare not deliver until the Board is set up. The Board in turn appoints broker agents in the nroduciiig centres. The grower who wishes te sell k; c wneat hn..s to submit it to tile agent of the ncol, and it does not become free wheat- unless it is rejected, oy me pool as-unfit for milling.
