Jftlonx is.'.nn: unlueky horse who has' registered some (good performances 'in.-big; races, showing promise of improvement, yet he. has very few wins to his credit. He .showed no form at • two years, being unplaced in. each of his eight starts, lie did better at three years, as'in thirteen starts he had two .seconds and four thirds. .One .of liis seconds was in the Great'Northern Derby (won. by Hunting Cry), and the. other' when Waterline beat him in the Trial Plate at Trontham. At four years lie was once third' sand then three times second (including the Summer Cup at Auckland), prior to winning the Trial Plate at Tren thorn. Later in the season ho had. another second and a third. Last season, after a third, ho won the Akaroa HantHeap. He was. fourth in the New Zealand up and third a week later in the tMetropolytan ITanldeonp. A year ago, at Auckland, he won the Summer Cup and was second to Croat Star in the Grandstand Handicap. A. few weeks later ho was second, beaten by a head, in the Wellington Cup, won by Compris in record time, and then a close third in the Great Autumn Handicap. This season he was again fourth in the New Zealand Cup. while on the present Auckland trip he earned money tn two races, dead-heating for third in the Summer Cup and filling third place in the Grandstand Handicap. He lias run well enough on occasions to 'show that he. is a good horse, and a win in a big event would he n fitting reward.

Chock Say, Gold Trail, Greenhorn, Rocket and Tout le Alond comprise the three- year-old division on the Wellington Cup. It is nine years since a three-year-old, Rapine, won the Wellington Cup, and lie is the only one of that age who has won on the Trontham course.

Silver Scorn has returned to Riccarton in charge of her former owneer-trainor, G. Murray who received no further instructions regarding her future from F. T. Cush, of Sydney. In the original instructions Murray Aynsley was given practically a free hand, and as there is nothing at present in Australia for her, and it looks only a matter of her remaining here to win the St. Legers and Great Northern Oaks it is sound policy to leave her in charge of Murray Aynsley.

Prince Author won the five races he contested at the West Coast meetings. The class was not. of course, of the best, hut a horse that can win five races in succession must bo a bit above the average.
