MAORI FATALLY WOUNDED

A communication from the bar North records a tragic ’occurrence at Pukepyto, live miles lrom Kaitutu, very early yesterday morning. The wife of a Maori farmer, Tloti Wild lloukamuu Itahihana, generally known us Hati Robson, heard her husband cry out, stating that he felt a biun\idig pain in his right side. An examination disclosed a fairly large shotgun wound. The wife declares that she did not hear the discharge oi the gun.
A doctor, hastily summoned, ordered the man’s removal to the Ivaitaia Hospital, where Robson expired at i pun. Detective-Sergeant Robertson, of Whangurei, who was in the locality, and the Kaitaia constable visited the scene and found a gun some distance from Robson’s home. As an outcome of inquires made a Maori youth was arrested and will ho arraigned in the Kaitaia Police Court to-day. 'The inquest was formally opened last evening and adjourned alter evidence of identification had been given , Later.
Riwi Manuel, 171, appeared before a J.P. charged with the murder of Hafti' Robson. On the application ol the police, accused was remanded to appear at Auckland on January 17.
