ORMOND SPORTS
TO-DAY’S BIG ATTRACTION
SPLENDID PROGRAMME
Given, fine weal her, the a I tendance aI, the Ormond sports l o-day should be something eldse to a record, for never previously has Hie club had such an excellent programme to offer patrons. Exceptionally largo entries have been received for all events arid the crearn of the dishiot’s athletic talent, both amateur and professional, will be seen in action. With the break since, the New Year round of sports meetings, all competitors should be freshened up nicely after their strenuous time then and therefore should, be giving of their best to-day. A particularly interesting feature of to-day’s programme is the inclusion of a number of field events for lady competitors, these including the shot putt, high and broad jumps. Three chopping events, which proved so extraordinarily popular at Te Karaka, are included in to-day’s programme and each has attracted a very large entry. All the leading axemen of the district, which means some of the best in the Dominion at least, will be seen in action. The horse section, as usual, will be very strong and here again the break of a few day's will be especially welcomed by competitors, for the hard going at Te Karaka had its effect on some of the mounts. They will be back at their best to-day, however.
There is a strong list of miscellaneous events, including the very popular sheaf-tossing competition, maize and weight estimating, stepping the chain, etc, , A refreshment booth will be on the grounds and hot water will be provided free. The beautiful shady grounds on the banks of the Waipaoa River are ideal for a sport 3 meeting such as this and there is no doubt that to-day’s attendance will be very large.
