COLE BY FLOODLIGHT
San Francisco has introduced allnight golfing. They put in 50,000,000 candlepower electric lighting over a nineliole com'se. at Ingleside, and 5000 players and spectators turned up on the opening night. The experiment was completely successful. One man did the nine holes in four under par, another wa’S two under, three were one over, and two wore two over. Then the women players tried it. Jean Lint, the local champion, did the course in a level. 45. The lighting at Ingleside is done from 26 stations. The lamps are mounted on eros's arms at the lops ol poles from 65 to 70ft. high, each unit, consisting of from one to ten loOOwatt lamps. Each lamp burns within a weatherproof aluminium projector, capable of being swung lo any position, which .is fitted with a glass reflector and lens. There are also 51 lamps having (rlcar lenses for long range, 68 with lightly stippled edges for medium range, and 10 heavily stippled lenses for short distance duty.
Banks of floodlight throw’ special beams on clumps of trees and °n 'be greens. Each floodlight has a range of from 2000 to 600 yards. The professional’s says that in this brilliance it is easier to follow the ball by night than by day.
