LADIES’ SINGLEvS TO MISS REECE, (Special To The Times). WAIPIRO BAY, Jan. 5.
Favored by excellent weather, the Waipiro Bay tennis tournament was concluded to-day before a good gathering of spectators who were treated to some excellent tennis. The ladies’ singles championship was won by Alias Reece who defeated Afiss E. Plummer in straight sets 6—3, 6—2. This match was very much more, even than the score indicates and Miss Plummer again impressed as a remarkably promising player. In the final of the combined championship, D. Cranswiek and Afiss Hegarty defeated F. .Telford and Aliss E. Plummer 4—6, 6—l, 6 —2. This was another splendid fight and there was actually little difference either way in any of the sets. The finals of the handicap events resulted as follows: Men’s singles: L. Tawhiri (scr.) defeated C. T. .Jefferd (r. 5) 50—38. Ladies’ singles: Aliss Alorris (r. 10; defeated Aliss E. Plummer (o. 2) 40—30. Airin’.s doubles: Scott and Bellerhy (r. 10) defeated M. Tawhiri aml Tawhiri scr. (r. 10) 50—45. Ladies’ doubles: Airs. AlcLauohlan and Miss E. Denton (r. 2) defeated Misses Hunter and Morris (r. 8) 40—31.
Combined doubles: G. Reeves and Airs. Reeves (r. 5) defeated L. Tawhiri and Airs, llnerowai (o. 5) 50—40.
