MAGISTRATE GIVES ADVICE

The first recorded .instance of birth control being judicially recommended to a couple about to many occurred to-day at the. Tower Bridge Police Court .
It was a case in which a minor, Catherine Stone, aged 17, applied to the magistrate (Mr. Bernard Campion) to allow her to marry Ernest Noyc, aged 21, against her parents’ refusal.
The application was granted. The magistrate recalled that the parents last year had i said, their daughter was too young to manage a homo and her existing child by Noyc. They still refused, though a second child had since been born.
Noyc gave evidence that he hud been out of work, and intended to draw tbo dole. .TIo and his wife would try to get work. Mr. Campion said: “There is no need for mock modesty. It is better to refrain from having children until you can support those already in existence. The Court’s probation officer will tell you (Stone) where to obtain the necessary advice. Take it. I hope you will he happy and stick to each other*.”
