CANADA OPPOSES FREE ENTRY TO BRITAIN.

The Premier- Mr. S. F. Tolmie, has requested Mr. R. B. Bennett to instruct the High Commissioner in London to notify the British Government that the acquiescence of English lumber importers to the. petition that imported Soviet lumber he not interfered with through tariffs or preferences would be a blow to Canada likely to injure the Imperial Conference. The Premier of Quebec, Mr. L. A. Tascatreu, has telegraphed Mr. Bennett to the same effect. Leading merchants arc claiming that Vancouver is the first city in tho Empire to take a iiractical move iu Empire trade, and are using tho trade board organisation to launch a campaign for a greater exchange of British goods.
