LABORITE CHARGED WITH FALSE PRETENCES
NAMES OF TWO N.S.Wi. MINISTERS MENTIONED
(U.P.A. bv Elec. Tel. Copyright.) /Received Nov. 20, 9.30 p.m.) - SYDNEY. Nov. 20.
A charge of false pretences against George Supple, aged 59 ; and a prominent Jjaboritc. is creating unusual interest, owing to the fact that the names of two of Mr Lang’s Ministers, Messrs McGirr and Ely, are being brought into the proceedings. The evidence is that Supple sought £l5O from David Gragg, as a reward for obtaining a license for an animal down works in the residential suburb of Bankstown-. A* detective stated that, while secreted under a table in Gragg’s office, he heard Supple.ask for £l5O, declaring that he could induce Mr MsCirr, then Minister for Health, to grant a license. Later, Mr Ely became Minister of Health and his name was drawn into the negotiations. . Both Ministers emphatically denied authorising Supple to make any such offer. On the contrary, they were entirely opposed to a noxious trade being earned on at Bankstown despite which the Board of Health approved Cragg’s application. The hearing of the case was adjourned.
