THURSDA Y CO.MBETITION. DEFENCE Awl) CASH STORES u'LN. The Thursday competition was continued at the'Oval yesterday under ideal weather 'conditions. Two matches were played, Defence defeating Nomads by seven runs, on the first innings and Cafcli Stores beating tnfc new team. All-Corners, by 10-5 runs on the first hand. Lc-n. AU-AJahon plaved another fine innings and wa= unbeaten with 53 to lus Credit when stumps were drawn. DEFENCE BEAT NOAIADS. Loth Defence anti Nomads were three men short and in a low scoring game the former side emerged with a win. Nomads batted first and 33 came up beiore a wicket fell, ..fenrevs and Blathwayt making a useful stand. Reed secured both the.>e men in one over and then in his next over captured three more wickets to end the innings at 41. Jeffreys hit briskly for Ins 18 and was the '’My ddubfc-fu'iye scorer, JoCed bowled very well, using ibts wind with sound judgment. Defence also put up a very poor display of batting against some very good bowling by Blathwayt, who was swinging 'in and turning from the off ill almost unplayable style. P. XI.), the competition, fielded a promising ,ide and ran up a total of 72 in the first innings. R. AJacc and L. Sherriff (of last .season’s Y.M.C.A. VI.), gave the team a splendid start, Lie former hitting half a dozen fours m his 42, and Sherriff finding the boundary four times in making 21.
