Shareholders in Associated Newspapers -Ltd., Sydney, to-day endorsed the ' directors’ recommendation by 172 votes to 86, that the Sydney Evening Newts be suspended until economic conditions warranted its re-publica,. Tvvo "shareholders' having demanded a ballot -on thV subject, this :is now being held. It closes to-morrow at ■ Tho recommendation of- the directors was bitterly resented „by a large section of the* meeting. 1 Sir Itrigh Dennis-, ton the chairman, agreed that a ballot ofshareholders shonld be taken on the proposal, to close at ;l p.m. to.morrow. A strong appeal was made by the managing . director that the Evening News should be continued for another two months, with the object of sale.
