NATIONAL ANTHEM NOT TO BE ALTERED

Copyrighp LONDON, Feb. 25. 51r. .Snowden, replying to an. inquiry in Parliament as to whether the Gov_ eminent proposed to adopt a new and more appropriate verse for the National Anthem, said that in this matter tradition was everything. The Government did not propose to improve thereupon. It might he information to the questioner that only the tune and not the words constituted the National Anthem.

Among tho political developments, tho General Council of the Trades Unions Congress met and expressed strong resentment against tlm hostile Liberal amendments to the Trades Disputes Bill. The council insisted on tho restoration of the position before the general strike in 1926- Tho Bill comes before the Standing Committee again to-day- If the Liberal amend, ment, making strikes illegal is carried, the Bill will be withdrawn. So also with the Electoral Bill, which is part of Labour’s bargain for Liberal support for the Trades Disputes Bill. •
An unofficial meeting of Labour PaiTiamentailiuns showed feeling against the ten per cent revenue tarill'. The resignations of Sir O. Mosley and of Mr. Brown have been delayed. The former is ill with in_ fiueuza and tho latter with pleurisy. The Government has decided to introduce a Bill to amend the Sunday Observance Act of 1780. It will make legal performances at theatres and other forms of amusement as well as einoinas.
