The service began at one o’clock and lasted an hour, and was fully choral. it was conducted by Dr. \Y. Borland, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Victoria. Among those- present were representatives of the Federal and State Governments, consuls, representatives of musical societies, and loading public men, including Mi. O. L. birth, the New Zealand Government agent. The oaken casket rested on a dais at the side of the pulpit, and was almost hidden by magnificent wreaths. Ten thousand people gathered outside the church to watch the funeral move away for the interment at the fainitv vault at Lilvdale cemetery.
