The death has occurred of Lady Frances Balfour, the authoress. S'uo was a daughter of the eighth Duke of Argyll, and the widow of Colonel Eustace Balfour. —;P.A.
A marriage has been arranged to take place at Easter between Gladys (only daughter of the late Mr. and Airs. J. Pointon), and Colin Douglas, eldest son of Mrs. and the late Mr. J. AY. White, of Havelock North
The late Dame Melba was related to a number of Auckland residents. Mrs. John Alexander, of St. George’s Bay Road, Parnell; Mrs. G. H. Purchas, of Remuera; and Mrs. Hllainger, of AVvuyard street, are .all cousins. Miss Laura AVulkor, a protege and pupil of the priiha donna, aiid Miss Ida AValker, are second cousins. Dame Melba stayed at the residence of. Mrs. Purchas on her last visit to Auckland two years ago.
The death of Dona Rosa Da Costa, at the reputed age of 150 years, is reported from Rio de Janeiro., It is stated that the woman -is survived by four children, all more than 10C 1 years of age, 124 grandchildren, 230 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren:
