The competition points noAV stand as. follows: Civil Service 24, Turangamui 24, City 23, Old. Boys 22, Gisborne Club 16, High School IT.

As the result of the borough water shortage, the • wickets Avere hardly of the best, the groundsman having had no opportunity of giving them the soaking required before a good surface can he attained. The consequence was that the teams batting on Saturday were placed ,at a decided disadvantage, the .’wicket being all in favor of the boAvlors, an advantage AA’hich Avas intensified by a* strong cross wind. HONORS BOARD. Batting. R. Nicholson (Turanganui) 83. • M. Guthrie (City) 50. 11. F. Forster (Gisborne) 35. H. Ellis (Turanganui) .32. BoAvling. ,T. C. Dow (Old Boys') seven for 36. AV. J. Ellis joined Nicholson and these two made a'fine stand, .both hatting freely and pAitting on the runs at a good rate. With the total 160, however, . the partership ended after adding 72, Nicholson being hoAvled _by Owen when only 17 short of his century. His 83 AA-as a fine display of hatting, anything at-all loose being soundly punished. He hit 13 fours in all. Ellis left 13 runs later aftor making a sound 32 (four fours) just when the runs were needed urgently. The side then collapsed and from taa'o for 160 the tally moved to eight for 183.
