CUSTOMS RETURNS

WELLINGTON FIGURES SHOW DEGREASE LAST MONTH.

AVELLINGTON, Jan. 2. Customs returns for the month of December totalled £72,899, a decrease of £11,709 as compared with December of 1929. Beer duty was £9037, a decrease of £755; motor spirit tax, £20;421, an increase of £7849; tyre duty, £1446, an increase of £l6B.

For the December quarter the figures were: Customs, £237,427, .compared with £298,614; beer - duty, £22,342 (£26.550); motor spirit, £59,752 (£38,568) ; tvre duty; £37BS (£4860).
