(Press Association.! KAAVHTA, Jan. 2. ; The Dcsoutter monoplane Aorangi, owned by the Waikato Aviation Co., piloted by Air. Blackinore. came to brief when landing at Ivawhia this morning. Thd landing ground situated on a sand hank in the middle of the liarhor, but ns the tide was full in only a small portion was exposed. _ ........ The pilot reconnoitred a good deal before attempting .to land, 'finally securing the full length of the av T ailable runway! but the distance was totally insufficient and the plane was soon enveloped in spray, water and sand arid heading at high speed for the wate’r’-s edge. Just as the plunge into the tide was imminent softer sand was encountered into which the machine nise-dived. turning completely over' and cominp- to a standstill partly submerged at the water’s edge..
The pilot and two passengers were not injured.
