WINTER SHOW ASSN.

TTIE ANNUAL MEETING

At the annual meeting of the Povfrty -Bay; Winter Show Association last evening, Mr, F. Murphy presided over some .‘-:0 members. The annual report stated that at periodical committee mootings hold during the year, the attendance was only .satisfactory, many of the committee not showing that interest in the affairs of the association which was so necessary for success. It was to be hoped that the incoming committee would show a keener- interest. Although a debit balance ol £2l was shown for the year’s work, the association might congratulate itself on tho outstanding success of the show. But for the very unfavorable weather experienced during the time the show was held everything pointed towards a record year. For want of space numerous applications both for trade exhibits and side shows had to bo refused. “The time has now arrived -when the association will have to consider seriously the matter of increased accommodation,” continued the report. ’ This, it is considered, could be done by the purchase of a suitable site and the erection of buildings, or by an amalgamation with the Agricultural and Pastoral Association.” The report concluded with, thanks to the public, the schools' the donors of special prizes, tfie City Band and the Press for their liberal support during the year, ' The annual 'report and balancesheet, the latter previously published, were adopted. The following officers were elected : President. Air. Go W. Armstrong; vice-presidents, Mr. W. TV Coderwall and one other to be appointed by the general committee; committee, Airs. L. Swarbrick and Alessrs. G. S. Bruce, ,W. Campbell, J. Colley, 11. Hopkinson, S. Pardoe, N. H. Shaw, and F. O. A. Leggett; auditor, Air. C. Blackburn; treasurer, Air J. R. Greig.

In vacating the chair in favor of Mr. Armstrong,, Air. Murphy said that some committee members had nut been as t iithusiaslie as they might have been Jast year, and there had often- been difficulty in scraping up a quorum for the meetings. He hoped that the . incoming executive Mould show a greater interest iu the association’s affairs. It was not without regret that, lie was vacating the chair, concluded Air. Alurp-hy, but- in Mr. Armstrong they had made a good choice, and lie- hoped to see a successful year’s working under the new president. Iu a brief reply. Air. Armstrong complimented Mr. Murphy on having piloted the association through one of the worst years in its. history. The success of tho show, despite bad Men thcr. had . been a -credit to tlie retiring president,, aud lie (Air Armstrong) was sure that all the executive officers liad found it- a pleasure lo work with Air. Alurphy. He moved n hearty vote of thanks to the retiring president, which was carried with loud acclamation.

Mr. j. Collcv opened the wav to mu inforinal discussion on the possibilities of expending and improving the AVinL.er Show by stating that, in ihe prist two cr throe years, the show had achieved about all that could be hoped for with its limited accommodation. He asked if anyone had anv suggestion to make. j Mr. T. G. Johns suggested that they should have a class for model aeroplanes made by boys. This had taken on woll in other districts, and he saw no reason why it should not be a success here., Several speakers stressed the need for extension ol floor space, rind Mr. Colley advanced the suggestion that it might bo possible to build a temporary .depot tor machinery beside the hall. . 1 , Mr! W, F. Oederwall wanted to know if it would bo possible, in addition to the Winter Show, to put ou a motor show. Tf they could get the support of the local motor agents, there vac no doubt that it would “go.” ... Members were taken with the suggestion, and Mr. Johns thought that they might-include motor-cycles azid exhibits of up-to-date machinery. Mr, Cederwall said the association was urgently in, need of new members, aivl urged all members to bring along recruits. ;. - . r , On Mr, Colley’s motion, it was decided that a lieary : vote of llianlcs-die passed to the "--tiring treasurer, Mr Jas. Qreig, aiid recorded on the minutes. - , • , ~ Mr. J. B. Greig moved that the association pass a. vote of sympathy with the- relatives of the late Mr, W. W. Shanks, who had at one time been a • vice-president of the association. and this' was. passed by members" standing in silence., - ;
