COMMITTEE DEFERS DECISION

AJLR LYSNAR’S OPINION

NO IMMEDIATE DANGER

According to advico received by the Mayor, Mr D. W. Coleman, from Mr W. D. Eysnar, M.P., last evening, tlicrd is no immediate danger of the Gisborne-Napicr 'railway construction being stopped and it .will bo nnuccessary for the deputation, appointed by last week’s conference, to go to Wellington to give cvidehco before tho Select Committee of Parliament, to mako that visit in tho meantime. Following the meeting of tho committee, Mr Lysnar was . advised that it was impossible for that body to go fully into the questions during tho present session and that tlio committee had decided not to (•all evidence yet, also that no decision concerning any line would be arrived at by the commit Leo until .the fullest investigation had been made. ’litis information was conveyed to i.lio Mayor by telegram from Mr Lysnar and the full! text ol Lite message is as follows :

•“Attended railway committee meeting to-day and, as a result, have just received ■written intimation vu behalf of the chairman stating it was impossible during the present session to go fully into questions relative to construction of lines. Committee decided not to call evidence from districts concerned in the meantime, (jut no decision. concerning any line will be arrived at by the committee until the fullest investigation lias’ been made. Meantime consider this quite satisfactory and no need fur witnesses at present.”
