The .Melbourne by-election for Hawthorn to succeed Mr. AlcPherson (resigned) resulted; J. A. Gray (Nationalist) 11,957; W. 11. Iluls'e (Labor) 6912. Tho Nationalists have gained 3600 votes since the November elections.
