HUGE CROWD AT GARRISON HALT,.
Over 1 (XX) ehildivn attended the an jiual fancy dress ball of Te_ Ha pa ra Sehool, held in the Garrison Hall Last evening, the function proving a remarkable success aiul going with a wonderful swing from start to fvnisli. Xu addition to the great gathering of young folk, there was a large attendance of parents and friends who had ' a time watching the antics of the gailv-clad children. The fancy costumes showed great care and originality, and the floor presented a fantastic picture, with downs; pierrots. pierretf.es. Columbines, harlequins, cowboys, Indians, swaggers, airmen, harem-girls, penguins-, and numberless other characters mingling in tli<» swing of tho dance. The function was opened by the Mayor (Mr I). W. Coleman) with an appropriate speech, this being lollowixl by the presentation of a New Zealand Ensign to the school by Mr W Gave, the Mayor . accepting the flag on behalf of To Hnpnra. Dancing then commenced to the music of • Sharpies’. orchestra. the children, who were admirably controlled by the teaching staff, occupying the floor until 1,0 p.m,,. after which tile adults joined in and carried on until tile early hours today.
A delightful supper, served by a band of willing workers, parents and wives of the committeemen, proved one of the highlights of a wholly enjoyable evening, for which tho greatest. credit'-' must ,v; ' b t i. • given to the committee of" liousdiblders and members of the.teaching.staff;.
