AUCKLAND, ay" 31. A further telegram was received, to-day, by. the Mayor,. Mr. G. Baildoii, from the oor man Consul at Welbngton, in, reference to the approaching visit of the cruiser Emdon. . The telegram received previously ■WM: to the effect that, assuming there were grounds for the, press references- to t||e proposed civic reception,- the consul respectfully suggested that' any such proposal ho abandoned in order to avoid a pub.hc controversy. < Mr. Ba'ldon thereon replied thanktug the consul and stating that he was ,in accord with the views expressed by the consul. / To-day's telegram from Wellington >stated: “In view of some erroneous 'interpretations being given tri the / press to niy respectful telegraphic suggestion "to you, 1 would very/highly appreciate a public, declaration from you to .the effect that vot'i considered my action timciv and iH’lpful.” In complying with the consul’s ro•fjuest,.
