PROPOSED STEAM PLANT AUXILIARY.

The City Council last evening adopted a recommendation to secure from .England a steam plant- auxiliary to the Waiport power works to generate the equivalent of about 2100 k.w. generated by witter at AA’aipori. The cost: of this plant wi 1 be between ITIi.OOO and £30,000.
An alternative proposal was to hire Diesel engines from Ihe Government at- £1000;.) per annum for two years, which with tlie costs of operating, and flic charge per'unit, would involve the same sum as the steam plant. The steam plant, is only a temporary expedient to title over the next two years’ demand, and in the meantime the- question of comp eting the head works, or their side to tlie Government will be further investigated. The boilers of the steam punit will tie oil fuetl.
