OPERA HOUSE
TVOXDERFUL PERFORMING COCKATOOS.
Nearly everybody knows that cockatoos are clever birds, and ill Gisborne there probably ’ are many snob birds which talk in a manner quite remarkable. However, all will ho eclipsed by Harmston’s Performing Cockatoo Comedians, now showing at the Opera House with the “World’s Entertainers,” and which drew a large audience, last evening. The cockatoos are almost human in their intelligence and capabilities, Ono bird answers any questions from the audience such as ringing any required number on a hell, or telling the time from a watch, or doing little sums. Others play, tunes on bells and chimes, and tho cockatoo acrobat, would make any circus clown jealous with his feats. Each Bird has this understudv who can do any of the tricks without going hack on his own part. “Cockatoos are the easiest creatures in tho world to train,” explains Miss Harmston, who has the credit for their splendid performances. “After a little patient training they never forget what they have learned, and it is only a matter of impressing it on them in tho first instance. They enjoy performing, too.” “The World’s Entertainers,” .at present touring the wor.TI, and now appearing at the Opera. House, at- a matinee to-day and again tonight, will present these marvellous cockatoo comedians supported by an outstanding programme of vazideville and pictures. Manellil who is assisted by Mack, may well claim to he tho world’s cleverest, juggler, while Jean Mae Donald will be seen in a delightful living marionette act. Included in the bill is Evelyn May, a petite danseuso of outstanding merit and charm. The picture programme screening is Irene Rich ia “The Climbers.” a delightful melodrama of old Spain, in which Irene Rich plays the part of a woman cml ittered by hate and redeemed by love.
“The World's Entertainers” will give, a matinee this afternoon and the Gisborne season will .conclude this evening.
