FIRE ON STEAMER.
DELIBERATE ATTEMPT TO DESTROY VESSEL. KEROSENE SOAKED WASTE FIRED IN CHART ROOM. i Press AsßftolatioD-* AUCKLAND. Nov. 23. A deliberate attempt was made to sec fire to the. Australian steamer Woolgar at King’s wharf. About midnight on Wednesday: dense smoko, and the. crackling of flames in the chart room and on the bridge awakened Captain .McLeod and the wireless operator. The flames were soon subdued by- Mr Blythe, chief officer, with a patent lire extinguisher. The lire had been caused by kerosene saturated waste, placed inside the chart-room door and set alight. The damage was very silght. The matter was placed in the hands of tha police, but so far no arrests have been made.
Tho Woolgar left . for AVaikokopu and Napier yesterday- to discharge the balance of her hardwood cargo from Bunburv.
